Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this fence cost calculator?

The calculator uses the national installed-cost ranges from our fence pricing research — the same figures published in our cost per foot guide and tracked across 440 cities in the Fence Cost Index. Your quotes should land inside the range for a standard installation; slopes, rock, drainage problems, or premium materials push toward the top of it.

How much does a 150-foot fence cost?

At 2026 national rates, 150 feet of 6-foot cedar privacy fence runs $3,750–$8,250 installed, chain link $2,250–$5,250, vinyl $4,200–$8,250, and wrought iron $5,250–$11,250. Add $150–$400 per walk gate and $400–$1,200 for a double drive gate.

What does the estimate include and exclude?

The range covers materials and standard installation labor. It excludes permits ($25–$150 in most cities), property surveys ($300–$600), and unusual site work. Optional line items — old fence removal, staining, and a difficult-terrain premium — can be toggled on in the calculator.

How do I get an exact price for my yard?

Get two or three same-scope quotes from local contractors — our directory lists vetted fence companies by city with local cost context. Same-scope means identical footage, height, material grade, and gate count on each quote, so the numbers are comparable.
