Manufacturer documents available October 3, 2026; individual applicability dates vary
Selected product-family warranty terms. No brand ranking, guaranteed lifespan or legal opinion. Full applicable warranty and consumer law control.
Sources and scope checked .
Lifetime does not mean free replacement of an installed fence forever. In the documents checked here, the covered owner, product family, transfer, labor and registration rules differ. Catalyst's ordinary warranty excludes labor, with a separate 2-5-year PerformancePlus benefit tied to installer program tier; Grand Illusions has a 20-year prorated residential term. Catalyst certificate; Illusions certificate.
This is an independent, selected document comparison, not a best-brand ranking or legal interpretation. For broader material selection, see the vinyl buying guide. Obtain the certificate applicable to the exact product and purchase before treating any row as your coverage.

</figure>| Product family | Original residential coverage | Transfer | Ordinary labor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Catalyst vinyl fence | Limited lifetime, original single-family purchaser | One eligible transfer; ends 30 years from original purchase | Excluded |
| Illusions Edge/Advantage/Classic | Purchaser lifetime while still homeowner | Ends upon sale or death of last purchaser | Excluded |
| Grand Illusions | 20 years, prorated; purchaser still living and homeowner | Ends upon sale or death of last purchaser | Excluded |
Sources: Catalyst and Illusions, June 2026 file. The Illusions document states applicability to products purchased after April 1, 2018. The Catalyst certificate states an effective purchase date after January 1, 2024. Those dates are applicability terms, not a claim that both products were tested together.
Labor coverage is a separate question
Catalyst's normal remedy excludes labor and removal/disposal/reinstallation costs. Its PerformancePlus feature separately describes qualifying repair/replacement with reasonable labor costs during a two- to five-year period depending on the installer's Club Catalyst tier. Product fading is excluded from that feature. Confirm the installer tier, covered product, period and applicable terms in writing. Both pages of the certificate.
Illusions excludes labor and other expenses connected with removal or installation of original or replacement product. A manufacturer remedy is therefore different from an installer's workmanship promise. The contractor may independently offer coverage, but that needs its own document; we do not infer it from the manufacturer name. Illusions limitations.
Why older Bufftech wording is not automatically current coverage
Bufftech's resource page still hosts a Barrette certificate effective after January 1, 2024. That document describes a five-year PerformancePlus period for ActiveYards and Bufftech vinyl products. The current Catalyst-hosted certificate describes a 2-5-year program-dependent period. Older Bufftech/Barrette file; Catalyst file.
These are different documents and scopes. Do not combine the older five-year language with a new Catalyst product and assume the longest terms apply. Ask the seller to identify the product family, invoice date and certificate, especially through a brand transition. This comparison preserves the old document as historical evidence rather than silently substituting it.
Residential is not every property type
| Product family | Other-property term stated in the checked document |
|---|---|
| Catalyst vinyl fence | 30 years; commercial warranty not transferable |
| Illusions Edge/Advantage/Classic | 20 years; proration applies |
| Grand Illusions | 10 years; proration applies |
Sources: Catalyst owner/property provisions and Illusions non-single-family provisions. An HOA, condominium, trust, school or rental arrangement should not assume individual primary-residence terms. Have the supplier confirm the actual ownership situation. This table does not determine consumer-law rights.
Grand Illusions proration endpoints
The checked residential document expressly describes 100% manufacturer cost responsibility in year one and 5% in year twenty, with the purchaser responsible for the balance, subject to the warranty. For an illustrative $1,000 qualifying product remedy at the year-twenty endpoint, 5% would be $50, before considering exclusions. This is arithmetic, not a claim prediction. Grand Illusions warranty.
We do not invent intermediate annual percentages from those endpoints. Obtain the applicable claim calculation from the manufacturer. The Trex warranty reference has a separately published recovery schedule for a different composite system; it is not interchangeable with vinyl terms.
Registration and claim evidence
Catalyst's checked certificate requires registration within 30 days of product purchase and notice within 30 days of discovering the defect, with original receipt and requested pictures/samples. Illusions directs the purchaser to the original company of purchase for claim documentation. Catalyst registration/remedy; Illusions claim process.
Keep the actual certificate, invoice, installation date, registration evidence and model/color information together. The practical purchasing question is not only how long coverage lasts but whether the owner can identify the product and satisfy its claim conditions.
Questions to put in a written fence quote
- Which exact fence and gate products, including reinforcement and accessories, are supplied?
- Which certificate applies to this purchase date and owner/property type?
- What labor, removal, disposal and freight are covered or excluded?
- Is additional program coverage included, and what confirms its duration?
- What transfer, registration, notice and evidence requirements apply?
- What separate workmanship warranty does the installer provide?
Use the quote comparison sheet and supplier RFQ. Browse local fence companies for an actual installation offer; a broad warranty headline is not a substitute for comparable scope.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a lifetime vinyl fence warranty include installation labor?
Not automatically. The ordinary warranties compared here exclude labor. Catalyst describes a separate qualifying PerformancePlus benefit with program-dependent duration; read the applicable certificate.
Is a vinyl fence warranty transferable?
It depends. Catalyst describes one eligible transfer with a 30-year-from-purchase endpoint. The checked Illusions coverage ends on sale or death of the last purchaser. Product/date/owner terms must be confirmed.
Is warranty length the same as fence lifespan?
No. A warranty describes conditional remedies for covered defects, not a measured service-life guarantee or free rebuilding after every cause of damage.
